According to Christine Todd Whitman of the Wall Street Journal, “We’re at a turning point in energy. The U.S. should be a leader in mitigating climate change and meeting a nearly 30% increase in U.S. demand for electricity projected by 2040.” Given the international momentum in new nuclear builds, is the U.S. in a negotiating position of strength and agile in the global market, or is the U.S. being superseded by those perhaps less qualified and less committed to safety in the market. The argument can be made, that it is imperative and of the utmost importance to U.S. National Security to remain a very active and available partner in the global nuclear market.
